Travis Horton of Twigg Realty: A Good Neighbor and Negotiator Supporting Schreiber ENP

October 3, 2020 by Lauren Law

Schreiber Extended Neighborhood Patrol (SENP) is appreciative of our local businesses who signed on to sponsor the inaugural year of our program. Travis Horton of Twigg Realty is one of those businesses. Travis helped by rallying his neighbors to join SENP, he donated dollars to help with the cost of the SENP member yard signs and he mailed communications to neighbors on behalf of SENP. Please take a moment to learn about Travis, his business and family and why he supports SENP.

Tell us about your business.

I am the Broker and owner of Twigg Realty.  I have been helping buyers and sellers all over this wonderful city for over 18 years. Born and raised here and having lived in many of Dallas’ neighborhoods has allowed me to be proficient in many different markets and I have developed relationships with people all over the area.

What are some differences that your business offers that others may not?

Most Realtors don’t know how to build what their clients are buying or selling.  My home building and remodeling experience will add a layer of confidence and perspective to the purchase of one of the largest single assets you will own.  Knowing the details beyond the cosmetics will give you peace of mind in your purchase or sale.

What are some of the most common questions you have from customers?

When selling a home, owners want to know what their property is worth or and want to know what a property they may be interested in purchasing is worth.

Are there things your prospective customers and clients may not be thinking of that you think they should know?

Each Realtor offers something different. Trust is probably the most important factor when choosing the right person for the job.

What is the favorite comment one of your customers has made about working with you and your business?

The one comment I remember and like this most is when a customer told me that I am a good negotiator. That one stuck with me because it’s important to me to do the best job possible when representing a buyer or a seller.

We appreciate your sponsorship of the Schreiber Extended Neighborhood Patrol.  What made you decide you’d like to participate?

My family and I live on Willow Lane and we wanted to be a part of something positive for the community.  The importance of feeling safe while here and the importance of prospective buyers feeling safe is a priority.

Kwik Kar Sponsors Schreiber ENP To Continue Support Of Our Neighborhood

September 21, 2020 by Lauren Law

Rich Goff, Kwik Kar, 12170 Inwood Road

By Gay Donnell Willis, SENP Board VP

The Schreiber Extended Neighborhood Patrol is appreciative of our local businesses who signed on to sponsor the inaugural year of the SENP.

Rich Goff of Kwik Kar on Inwood Road is one of those businesses.  Please take a moment to learn about Rich, his business, and why he supports SENP.

Tell us about your business.

We are a full-service oil change business at our core.  We change oil and filters on our customers’ vehicles at the manufacturers’ recommended intervals.  We also change air filters, cabin air filters, offer manufacturer recommended services (brake flush, radiator flush, power steering and transmission flush) at a lower price and fraction of the time it typically takes a dealership to perform the same service.  You can get your official Texas state vehicle inspection done quickly at Kwik Kar, with 3 inspection machines and at least 2 inspectors on duty at all times.  We perform around 1,000 inspections/month and strive to get those customers in and out in a timely manner.  You can also have mechanical repairs done like brakes, AC service, radiator service, electrical and suspension—again at a lower cost and faction of the time a customer may spend at a dealership.

What are some differences that your business offers that others may not?

First and foremost is our level of service.  We have friendly, experienced crew who have gotten to know the people in the neighborhood, and this has resulted in a loyal customer base.  75% of our customers on any given day are repeat customers.  We are honest and won’t try to sell unneeded products or services.  We explain everything and give the customer his or her options.  In these unprecedented times, we also offer the customers the option of staying in their vehicle during service.  We wear masks at all times.  If we need to operate the vehicle, we use disposable plastic seat covers and wear disposable gloves.

We also involve ourselves in the community in ways the corporate lube centers may not.   For the last 10 days of October 2019 we donated 10% of all sales to Catholic Charities tornado relief.  On a more regular basis, we sponsor Jesuit Athletics, Ursuline Academy’s Rangerettes, WT White High School Athletics and the Town North/Semones Family YMCA.

There are lots of businesses close by, so even though we have prompt service, you can still take a moment to visit Sonic, Chik-Fil-A, Starbucks, PetSmart if you want.

What are some of the most common questions you have from customers?

“How long’s the wait for an inspection?” and “How much is an oil change?”  We can usually get you in-and-out much faster than a dealership, and the pricing is better too. We base pricing on standard 5 quarts for the year, make and model of your car.

Are there things your prospective customers and clients may not be thinking of that you think they should know?

Kwik Kar can help you with mechanical repairs like brakes, AC service, radiator service, electrical and suspension.  Your benefit is that it’s at a lower cost and fraction of the time a customer may spend at a dealership.

You can also count on us to remind you about things like air filters.  Customers don’t think about air filters when they come in for oil change—cabin air filter vs. engine air filters.  You might have dander from your dog riding in your car with you.  The engine air filter can affect gas mileage and how long your car will last.

One thing about this neighborhood—there are a lot of high mileage cars, because people are taking care of their cars.    Attention to these details are the things that make them last.

What is the favorite comment one of your customers has made about working with you and your business?

We get a LOT of compliments on Yelp and Google because we’ve got built a strong team.  We see things like “(Assistant Manager) Lorenzo is the best!” and “Frank is the greatest!”

We appreciate your sponsorship of the Schreiber Extended Neighborhood Patrol.  What made you decide you’d like to participate?

There was a run of break ins at the store in April, so security played a big role.   I get an alert from my security cameras when anything enters the parking lot, and it’s a real comfort to see the SENP patrol there overnight.

Supporting neighborhood initiatives is also very important to all of us at the Kwik Kar on Inwood.

Brookstone Insurance Offers Concierge-Type Personal Service

April 29, 2020 by Lauren Law

By Gay Donnell Willis

Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood took the work of many, including the financial support of sponsors to help launch our program. Over the next several months we will be posting short blogs about our sponsors to enable you to get to know them a little better.

We are appreciative of Brookstone Insurance in assisting SENP to become a reality in late 2019.  Two representatives from Brookstone Insurance have shared their experience in the industry to benefit our neighbors and neighborhood:  Lauren Allen, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer and Shawna Graf, Vice President—Private Client Supervisor.

If you’ve ever wondered how to choose an insurance broker, The Brookstone team is here to help and feels they have a few key differences that make them a good fit for those seeking insurance:

  1. Brookstone offers a wide portfolio of products which means convenience for the customer. In addition to Group Health and Life, Business, Personal and Private Client insurance, they also offer Farm & Ranch and Construction making them a convenient “one stop shop.”
  2. They proactively review their client’s insurance needs.  While some providers only reach out when it’s time for you to renew, Brookstone’s associates do an annual review of your portfolio and share their advice based on your changing life as well as changing rules and regulations. They have relationships with a variety of carriers, so are able to regularly shop for the best deal for their clients. “Some of our clients prefer to get an email or phone call for their review, and others like to come in for a face-to-race explanation of the recommendations. Whatever they need, Brookstone’s professionals are responsive to all of our customer’s wishes,” says Shawna.
  3. It’s a family business. Founded by Brook Crawford, Brookstone is still run by Crawford and his family. Laura notes, “Our staff is close and feels like an extended family, and this same watchful and protective nature extends to our clients. Hard work and exceeding our customer’s expectations are our core values.”

Some Insurance Tips Brookstone Insurance would like to share are:

  • Water coverage is the #1 claims/ underinsured problem.  Whether it’s from rain or a leaking pipe, it not only creates problems immediately, but there is a cascade of problems that come after water recedes.  Other water issues you could potentially have include the water line in your refrigerator or dishwasher and water backing up in toilets, which can require replace flooring, sheetrock, etc.
  • If you’ve had a water leak in your yard, it’s good to know that Sewer Line Coverage helps with the grey area between your home and the city.
  • The Texas climate can lead to dry foundation issues. Turn off water while on a trip.
  • Dogs are great as a theft deterrent, but the breed you choose can affect your insurance liability, so it’s good to have an advisor who can counsel on the impact it could have on you.
  • For theft issues make sure you are insured properly. If your laptop is stolen from your car, that is not on your Auto policy, but it would be covered on your Homeowners policy.
  • If you own an antique car, it won’t be insured like regular car, and Brookstone knows how to address coverage for this category.
  • High-end jewelry will need its own policy.
  • Brookstone is even versed in kidnap ransom policies!

It’s important to have an insurance evaluation specific to you and your loved ones and Brookstone knows how to consider what is important to you and personalize it.

“Brookstone Insurance is passionate about making sure we know the particulars around insurance coverage that the average consumer doesn’t know and doesn’t have to know if they work with us—we will do the thinking for you,” Laura said.

To learn more about Brookstone’s concierge-type and personal service from this family owned business, contact Shawna Graf at 469-482-1017 or Steve Spalding at 214-502-7970. You may also visit the Brookstone website.
