Membership Update 11.17.19

November 17, 2019 by Lauren Law

Membership Enrollment Week 2

We’re a third of our way to the goal!

Example of the business card members only will receive with the SENP patrol officer’s cell number.

We’re at the end of our 2-week Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol enrollment campaign and we wanted to give you an update. We began enrollment on Nov. 2 and in the last two weeks we’ve received 219 enrollments which break out as follows:

Area 1-87 members & 39.73% of total

Area 2-30 members & 13.70% of total

Area 3-102 members & 46.57% of total.

Total members 219.

Our goal from the start was to obtain 50% of homes in each area so that we can afford 20 hours per week/52 days per year in each area. This breaks out as follows: Area#1-200 homes (out of 400 homes) Area#2-209 homes (out of 418 homes) Area#3-244 homes (out of 488 homes) Total 653 homes=33.53% of the 50% goal with 219 total homes enrolled. As you can see, we have a way to go to reach our goal.

What we may do is keep enrollment open through November and December but start patrols for those who have paid in December as soon as we possibly can. However, before we can commit to patrols beginning in December our DPD ENP coordinator is trying to find enough DPD officers to patrol and tells us that there is a shortage of officers to fill off duty assignments such as events and ENPs. So far, we only have two officers who have committed to patrolling our area and for 20 hours per week we need at least four or five officers to accomplish this, especially in light of the new City of Dallas off-duty policy which will regulate the amount of overtime police officers can work.

If we are able to start patrols in December, we will ask the officers to patrol the areas based on the membership percentage that have signed up so far in each area. For instance: Area 1: 87/219 = 39.73% of the 20 patrol hours per week Area 2: 30/219 =13.70% of the 20 patrol hours per week Area 3: 102/219 =46.57% of the 20 patrol hours per week We feel this may be the only equitable way to divide the patrol hours until we can get closer to the 50% of each area for which we had originally hoped.

To get to our original household goals, we are asking all residents who have signed on so far to try and encourage at least three (3) of your neighbors to join. Our street coordinators have done a great job of rallying neighbors early on to get verbal commitments but it’s now time to get everyone who committed in the last year to actually join. This is going to be the only way we will be successful and meet our goals. Thanks for your continued support. Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email [email protected] and one of our board members will reply to you.

Membership Update 11.10.19

November 10, 2019 by Lauren Law

Don’t forget to sign up!

We launched the enrollment campaign for Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol last Saturday, Nov. 2. As of today we have 139 members total in 3 areas. Our goal was to get at least 50% of homes in all Areas 1, 2, 3 to sign up so we have a ways to go. Please encourage your neighbors to sign up by visiting www.schreiberenp.org. Be sure to check the ENP Map area and find the Area you live in before signing up because there have been some people signing up in the wrong areas. You can find that info here: https://schreiberenp.org/area-map/. Please pass the word. We hope to launch patrols as soon as possible but the launch date is dependent on enough people signing up. Thanks for your help with this effort.

Starting an ENP

November 2, 2019 by Lauren Law

Starting an organization such as Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol is just like starting a business. We have organized a Board of Directors, developed Bylaws, have a bank account and post office box, applied for and received not-for-profit status by the Office of the Secretary of State, created marketing materials, consulted with attorneys, accountants, website developers, security & technology experts and other ENPs, vetted police officers, obtained sponsors and found many volunteers including Leads and Street Coordinators who have rallied their neighbors to generate interest in joining SENP. Most of our Board, Leads, Street Coordinators and Volunteers have full time jobs and others have household, family and other obligations, so as you can imagine, getting this ENP going had to be done in between life’s challenges and coordinated with varying schedules.

Our goal is to have the best Expanded Neighborhood Patrol possible and we hope we will have accomplished that goal with the launch of Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol. We need the help of the entire community to be successful in this first year. The more neighbors who sign on, the more hours we can afford for patrol hours. Please spread the word. Share our website with all you know who live in the Schreiber Neighborhood Community. https://schreiberenp.org/

Thank you to all of our Board Members, Leads, Street Coordinators, and Volunteers for all the help you have provided and especially for the support and words of encouragement along the way.

The saying,” It Takes a Village” is exactly right and applies to our launch of SENP. I heard something the other day that rang true as well: “Anything worth doing is not always easy.” Truer words have never been spoken! But we did it and hopefully are community will be safer as a result.

Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol Membership Drive is Live!

November 2, 2019 by Lauren Law

Street Coordinators from Areas 1 and 3 and SENP Board Members met in late summer to discuss the Membership Enrollment Program to be launched in Fall 2019. Thanks to all SC’s for your help. We couldn’t do this without you!

Hello Neighbors! At long last we are ready to begin our membership drive for the Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (SENP). Please take a few minutes to look through our brand new website to learn more about the program. We look forward to you joining our membership program. Tell your neighbors and friends who live in the area–the more who join, the more patrol hours we can purchase!

We will need to obtain funds to pay for at a minimum of 20 hours per week to start the program. Please see Benefits, Services and Costs to learn more about what SENP offers. We’ll update you in about a month to let you know where things stand and when patrols will start.

Thank you to all the volunteers in our community who have helped make this Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol become a reality.

June 17, 2019 by Lauren Law

The Secretary of State granted Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol 501(c)(4) status. This effort was an important step in our being able to move forward with this organization.
