March 2022 Crime Report, Other ENPs & Thanks To Volunteers

April 3, 2022 by Lauren Law

Other ENPs in the Area

In early to mid-March we asked some of the other area ENPs in the area to share information about their programs so we could learn more about other programs and how they operate:

Key Takeaways:

  • SENP is one of the youngest ENPs–we just started our 3rd year in 2022 but some ENPs have been in operation for 10+ years.
  • Of the 5 ENPS, we have the most homes in our neighborhood area. (Approx. 1,464 homes with 591 members thus far for 2022)
  • 63-66 average # of planned patrol hours per week by the 5 ENPs
  • 60% of the ENPs pay in the same pay range as we pay per patrol hour ($46-$50/hour)
  • SENP has the least expensive program of the 5 programs ($300/year)
  • All ENPs use DPD to service their ENP
  • 60% of the 5 ENPs are having trouble finding officers, including SENP
  • 4 of the 5 ENPs use an accounting or membership software program, but none of the ENPs use the same program

SENP patrol hours per month for first quarter of 2022 were fewer than planned because we had one officer out because of an on-the-job injury, one officer has been out on paternity leave and one officer is on administrative leave and we’re not sure when he’ll be back.  Our program is also competing with other off duty jobs that pay higher per hour than we are able to offer, however, our pay per hour is at the top end of the 5 ENPs we reached out to. We’re working with our DPD ENP coordinator to see what can be done to find more officers.

Crime Stats, March 2022

March 26
No crimes reported

March 19
03/16 4978 THUNDER (between Drexelwood and Tryall Drive) –  theft offense – complainant property taken – DPD routine investigation on 03/17

March 12
No crimes reported

March 5
03/01, 4807 ELLENSBURG (between Welch and Drujon)  – theft of property – unknown suspect took power plumbing tool from porch area which belonged to contractor working at the residence

Please Keep Us Informed

At SENP we are continually striving to offer the best program around. But we can’t do that without feedback from our membership. If you see a crime in progress, call 911 first then the SENP mobile phone.  If no one answers, the next officer on duty should return your call or text. If they don’t do this, please let us know so we can help address any issues with our SENP DPD Coordinator.  Instead of calling 911 you can also make a report here:

https://www.dallaspolice.net/reports/Pages/coplogic.aspxKeep in mind, the officers may not always be on duty when you request your out of town home check. Again, the next officer on duty should reply to your phone call or text but if they don’t, please let us know.

Thank You To Our Volunteers!

SENP is an organization run completely by volunteers. Without these volunteers, we would not be able to have this program in our neighborhood. We want to thank the following people for donating their time during the 2022 enrollment period:

Greetings SENP 2022 Members & February 2022 Crime Report

February 28, 2022 by Lauren Law

Great news!  We now have 585 2022 SENP members as of 2/28/22, only 17 fewer members than in 2021.  Once again, we want to say a huge thank you to all the street coordinators and Leads in Schreiber Manor and Forestcrest for their help during our enrollment. We couldn’t do it without them, or you, our members, so thank you, as well, for your continued support of this neighborhood patrol.

Count of Members19110620979585

Now that we know how many members we have for 2022 and adding that to the surplus of funds we had from 2021, we will be able to afford 67 hours per week of patrol. That said, we have one officer on paternity leave who will return at the end of March so we won’t be able to realize the 67 hours of patrol until he returns.  Our Friday patrol officer, who has been on light duty due to an injury, will return to patrol on Friday, March 4.  We’d also like to welcome Officer Brad Smith, who will patrol Sundays starting March 6.

At some future point in time, we hope to be able to add an additional 8 hours of patrol for two overnight shifts when another officer who is on temporary leave returns. We will inform our members when we’re close to or at that level of patrol and we will update you on the total hours of patrol.

Apologies to anyone who had requested out of town home service while the officers have been out on leave. As of this past weekend our Saturday patrols resumed, and as stated earlier the Friday patrols will resume March 4. If you request OOT home check in the future, and you don’t receive a text back saying an officer has received your OOT home check request, please email to let us know so that we can address any issues with our DPD ENP coordinator.  Thank you for your help.

If you have already rejoined, thank you. If you haven’t renewed please do so by January 31. If you do not plan to be a member for 2022 (but we sure hope you will), please drop your yard sign off by the end of this month with your name and address noted and also remove the patrol cell number from your cell phone so we can keep our records up-to-date.

To renew, visit https://schreiberenp.org. Please register from a computer as we have been experiencing some issues with people trying to join from a phone or iPad. Please reach out to us if you have any issues. January to December 2021 Crime Report

SENP 2021 Member Meeting Summary

October 31, 2021 by Lauren Law

The Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (SENP) annual meeting was October 14, 2021. Below is a summary of some of the key learnings from the meeting.

  • SENP is looking for a new board member. Please email Lauren Law at [email protected] if you are interested to serve in this capacity.  You will be doing a very good service to our neighborhood.
  • In the event of an emergency, we are to call 911 first.  Then call the phone number of the off-duty police patrol. If you call the off-duty DPD police SENP cell phone number and no one answers, leave a voicemail.
  • One of the valuable services provided to us when we join SENP is that when we are going to be out of town, we can notify the off-duty police patrol officers, and they will keep an extra eye on our house while we are away. They’ll do a perimeter check of the windows and doors.
  • Currently eight Dallas Police Department officers patrol our neighborhood at 55 to 65 hours per week.  The SENP goal is 70 hours of patrolling, but officers are hard to find.
  • Officers patrol 10pm to 6am – 4 days per week; 6am to 2pm – 3 days per week; and 2pm to 10pm – 5 days per week.
  • 2021 (Jan.1-September):  5 Burglaries, 21 BMVs, 3 Theft, 1 Criminal Mischief, 3 Stolen Vehicles—33 Total—we’ve seen a 54% decrease in crime from 2020 to 2021, thus far.
  • 2020 (Jan. 1-Sept.): 10 Burglaries, 26 BMVs, 9 Thefts, 16 Criminal Mischief, 10 Stolen Vehicles—71 Total, BMVs/Thefts Up—a 22% increase from 2019.
  • 2019 (Jan. 1-Sept): 8 Burglaries, 16 BMVs, 4 Theft, 11 Criminal Mischief, 17 Stolen Vehicles—58 Total
  • Survey results:
    • 96.89 % of members are satisfied or completely satisfied with SENP.
    • 25.91% of members made a call in the last 8 months to report a crime or suspicious activity.
    • 72 members have called the patrol cell to ask for out of town patrol service.
    • 96.37% plan to join SENP during the re-enrollment, which runs Nov. 1-Jan. 24.
    • 98.96% would recommend or consider recommending SENP.
  • If you know a member has moved, please email: [email protected] so we can pick up the yard sign.
  • If you would like to be added to the Schreiber Crime Watch email, chaired by Joyce Martin, please send her an email at[email protected].
  • Schreiber Crime Watch (crime analysis/reporting) and Schreiber Expanded Neighborhood Patrol (neighborhood patrol using off-duty DPD police officers funded by members) are two different entities but work together to help keep crime out of our neighborhood.
